Glossodoris sp. cf cincta (Bergh, 1888)
50mm

These were at numerous sites at Tulamben and in the Padangbai area. These were long considered Glossodoris cincta, but Matsuda & Gosliner (2018) found that there were several similar species and it could not be precisely determined which is the real G. cincta. Our specimens resemble what Matsuda & Gosliner (2018) call G. sp. cf cincta and G. acosti, two closely related species that show relatively small differences in external characters, internal anatomy and molecular data. Right now we are going with the former name for all of our Bali specimens.

Apparently feeding on that dark gray sponge.

Appears to be eating a sponge hidden beneath the surface debris.

Half hidden in a clump of Xenia soft coral near Padangbai.
